The series centers around Charlie Cale, a casino worker with an innate ability to detect lies, traveling across the United States on the run from a casino boss following a suspicious death.
Poker Face follows the story of Cassie (Natasha Lyonne), a highly skilled poker player who is trying to make her way in the high-stakes world of underground poker games in New York City. However, after a game goes wrong, Cassie finds herself in trouble with a group of gangsters and must navigate the dangerous criminal underworld that surrounds the game. Throughout the ten-episode series, Cassie must use her poker skills and wits to outsmart her opponents, including the ruthless Roman (Mark Ivanir), who becomes a thorn in her side. As Cassie delves deeper into the world of underground poker, she uncovers secrets about her past that threaten to derail her future.
Along the way, she meets Daphne (Nikki Amuka-Bird), a mysterious woman who may hold the key to Cassie's past. The show is filled with twists and turns, as Cassie must navigate the complex relationships between the players at the table and the criminal elements that surround the game. As she fights to stay alive and protect those she cares about, Cassie must also confront her own demons and come to terms with the choices she has made.
WHAT CRITERIA MAKES IT WOKE?
WOKE EVIDENCE:
- The show follows a common Hollywood trope where men are universally incompetent and joy is taken in emasculating them if/when the lead character is a woman.
